Introducing “Angela Carlson Language Services”

Nothing says “new website” quite like the first blog post...well, and the new website, of course!

I’ve had a website on my mind for a long time. A way to showcase myself, my experience and what I can offer to those who might need my help. A way to demonstrate my passion for language – cultivated over years of reading, meeting people and experiencing new cultures, studying and working hard to hone my multilingual communication skills – and the connections one can forge between different communities. It’s equal parts daunting and rewarding to put a part of yourself out into the world, but worth it nonetheless.

With the dawn of 2025 comes a new chapter in my professional life. For the past few years, I have been building skills in other jobs that interested me; exercising my transcription and proofreading skills with the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba’s Hansard, and learning more about German culture and heritage as the program assistant for German-Canadian Studies at the University of Winnipeg. Some of those connections are continuing on into the new year, but there is another path down which I am heading with renewed vigour: my freelance career.

In 2024, I was very busy – working, forging new connections, learning and dreaming about possibilities for the future. There were some fantastic experiences this year that I wouldn’t change for the world. But my yearning to direct more towards my freelance goals – more energy, more time, more passion – was also ever-present, and only grew as the year went on. And that’s how I knew something needed to change for 2025.

I avoid setting rigid New Year’s resolutions because I like to leave myself open to new opportunities in places or at times I might not have expected. But this year, I plan to channel more into my freelance journey. With this website, I hope to reach new and diverse clients, with whom I can make some pretty amazing things. It’s a step towards a dream that took root years ago, and whose tendrils have finally started to peek out above the soil. If you’d like to join me on this adventure, you’re welcome here.
